Water sports to enjoy in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote
16/06/2021Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are incredibly charming thanks to their enviable climate and vast beaches. Their coastlines are also a major draw for water sports enthusiasts. We'd like to recommend some water sports activities to help you unleash your inner adrenaline during your next vacation on either of these two amazing islands.
Surfing : Lanzarote boasts a wide variety of surf beaches to suit all skill levels. If you're a beginner, Famara is the beach for you. But if you're a seasoned surfer who's ridden countless waves, you can't miss the famous El Quemao wave.
Kitesurfing : although it can be done all year round, the best season to practice this sport on the island is from May to September, and the ideal beach with those winds is, without a doubt, Famara.
Diving : due to its ease and rich biodiversity, one of the best places to dive in Lanzarote is Playa Chica, Puerto del Carmen.
Distances from R2 Bahía Kontiki Beach Apartments:
Famara : 30 min by car.
El Quemao : 30 min by car.
Surfing : the island's quintessential sport. Its conditions have made it a world-renowned surfing destination. To learn, you can try El Cotillo or Playa Blanca, but if you're more experienced, you can try the waves at Derecha de Lobos and El Hierro.
Kitesurfing : For beginners, Corralejo and Playa del Burro are the perfect beaches for this activity. For more advanced kitesurfers, we recommend El Cotillo and Sotavento, the latter having hosted the Kitesurfing World Championship on several occasions.
Distances from R2 hotels in Fuerteventura:
El Cotillo : 1h 10 min by car from R2 Romantic Fantasia Suites.
Right of Wolves : 1h 15 min by car from R2 Bahía Playa Design.
Route 2 starts from Majanicho, a small fishing village located on the north coast of Fuerteventura. It heads south until it reaches an asphalt road and continues along it without deviating until it arrives at the area known as El Roque, formed by the Calderón Hondo and Montaña Colorada volcanoes.
Once you've covered the 5.5 kilometers separating you from Majanicho, you'll reach the vicinity of Montaña Colorada. After a slight bend, you'll enter the village of Lajares, and 1.3 kilometers later you'll arrive at the Municipal Football Field, where this route ends.
And now that you know some of the water activities you can do on these islands and the main areas to do them, we invite you to embark on an adventure and enjoy the beaches and seas in a unique and exciting way.
