05/11/2021Timanfaya National Park is one of the 4 national parks in the Canary Islands: Caldera de Taburiente (La Palma), Garajonay (La Gomera), Las Cañadas del Teide (Tenerife) and finally, Timanfaya National Park (Lanzarote).
This place is one of the most visited in all of Lanzarote and covers a large area in the southwest of the island. Without a doubt, if you go to Lanzarote, you must visit Timanfaya. Here is a list of activities you can enjoy in Timanfaya National Park:
25 minutes from R2 Bahía Kontiki
Known as the Fire Mountains, Timanfaya National Park can be explored by bus, or "guagua" as they're colloquially called in the Canary Islands, since private vehicles are prohibited. Located between the municipalities of Yaiza and Tinajo, the bus tour departs from Hilario Islet, where you'll find the Visitor Center and the Diablo Restaurant.
At this visitor center, you can learn in an engaging and educational way what happened in Timanfaya 300 years ago. A must-see to understand the history of the area.
One of the few activities you can do in the national park is the Caldera Blanca trek. It's a fairly comprehensive route that takes you around one of the largest craters in the Canary Islands.
