Reasons why traveling makes us happy
18/03/2022There are many reasons why traveling offers numerous benefits to personal well-being. Whether it's a business trip, a vacation getaway with family or a partner, or a long trip alone or with friends, traveling (planning for it, enjoying it, and remembering it) can make us happier people, allowing us to escape the daily grind and discover new cultures, places, people, and even ourselves. From the moment we plan our trip until we return home, a whole world of new experiences will remain in our memories like a gift.
In this post, we bring you some benefits that, taken together, make traveling much happier.
There's no doubt that, to stay active, our minds need activity, new challenges, changes, and discoveries that excite us. When we travel, we experience a series of positive, and sometimes inexplicable, emotions that we're unable to achieve in our daily lives because we're immersed in the daily grind. Therefore, generating these new emotions becomes important even after the trip is over, since when we recall a passage from our trip, we'll be able to recall that emotion again.
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by our own routine. Worries, work, the very pace of the city we live in—these factors make it difficult to completely escape. At this point, we need that "break," that time for ourselves, that space of time that allows us to reconnect with ourselves. And by traveling, we achieve this. We're able to leave aside the daily grind, the stress, and the rush to give our brain a break, slow down, and return our body and mind to a more pleasant place where we feel much better.
Returning home, reuniting with friends or family, and sharing the details of our trip is another of the best experiences. And that's what we do when the adventure is over: we share our best photos, tell anecdotes, and reminisce about the funniest moments. We do all of this with special joy, because we come back with our batteries recharged, we feel good, we share it all, because sharing is reliving it.
The moment we think about it, we're already traveling, in a way. The process of planning and organizing brings us an immediate dose of happiness, but in a different way than what we experience once we arrive at our destination. As we do so, our imagination takes flight, imagining all the places we're going to visit, the flavors we want to try, and the sensations we want to experience.
No matter the destination, the length of time, or the company, traveling is a continuous learning process. A trip can provide us with many lessons, from historical knowledge about other cultures and ways of understanding life, to acquiring language skills, and even deeper insights into ourselves and the world around us. Learning is progress. Who doesn't feel better moving forward?
